Injuries of the triceps surae—comprising the soleus and the medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscles—represent a complex entity within musculoskeletal clinical practice. Their fundamental role in posture, balance, and locomotion makes them a key muscle group in both athletic and non-athletic populations. However, their management is often limited to functional protocols and return-to-play guidelines, overlooking a deeper understanding of the underlying pathophysiological, sensorimotor, and neuromuscular mechanisms.
This course is designed for physiotherapists, sports physicians, and musculoskeletal health professionals seeking a scientific, critical, and clinically grounded perspective on triceps surae injuries—moving beyond traditional functional or sport-specific approaches. The program offers an in-depth exploration of topics such as: morphostructural organization of the triceps surae, current models of muscle injury, role of the muscle spindle and the sensorimotor system, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors, pain as a neurophysiological experience, quantified assessment of structural and functional damage
Through a rigorous modular structure, the course examines the integration of neuromuscular, sensory, and structural systems in triceps surae injuries, supported by up-to-date scientific evidence. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning and critical interpretation, rather than on instrumental tools, providing a cross-disciplinary, evidence-based, and knowledge-centered approach.
1. Functional Anatomy and Morphostructure of the Triceps Surae
2. Neurophysiological and Sensorimotor Integration and Clinical Assessment
3. Advanced Clinical Interpretation and Diagnostic Differentiation
4. Advanced Clinical Evaluation and Decision-Making

Graduate in Physiotherapy from the Miguel Hernández University (Elche, Alicante). He has taught at several universities, including the University of Murcia, the Camilo José Cela University, and the Public University of Navarra. At the latter, he stood out as a lecturer in the University Expert in Sports Rehabilitation program.
He is currently an Associate Professor at CEU University of Elche and a lecturer in the Expert Program in Percutaneous Neuromodulation and Invasive Techniques. He has completed numerous professional training courses in advanced techniques for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries related to sports.
From a professional standpoint, he has worked for several years as a physiotherapist and sports rehabilitation specialist in various football clubs from the English Premier League and the Italian Serie A, as well as with Olympic federations and UCI cycling teams. Much of this work took place between 2017 and 2023, part of it also as a consulting physiotherapist. Among his diverse professional activities, it is worth noting that he is a member of the medical staff of Ilia Topuria, UFC Featherweight World Champion.
In the 2023–24 season, he joined Villarreal CF’s first team as a physiotherapist. Beginning with the 2024–25 season, he became Coordinator of the Physiotherapy Department for the club’s first team — a role he continues to hold today.
Before this position, he served as Director of the Master’s in Physical Activity and Sports Rehabilitation at the University of Girona (2011–2021).
He is the author of numerous scientific articles, primarily focused on the effects of inertial strength training systems, both for performance enhancement and injury prevention.
In the professional field, he has trained athletes for over 30 years, particularly football players, and served as fitness coach for FC Barcelona — first with Barça Athletic during the 2019–20 season (under Xavier García Pimienta’s staff), and later with the first team (under Ronald Koeman in the 2020–21 and 2021–22 seasons, and under Xavi Hernández in 2021–22).
Throughout his career, he has stood out for his methodology in injury prevention, his dual structural and functional approach to training, and, in recent years, his integration of the ecological framework into football training.
